Self-Assessment

In my first paper, I used my day-to-day life as a topic to discuss the effects of urbanization on nature and humans, using my rabbit Spicy to discuss the role of animals as part of nature in the city. The same applies to the rats I saw in Manhattan and the weeds on the railroad tracks. While writing, I discovered that nature is everywhere in human life, but simultaneously, humans damage the heart, which humans ultimately bear. I found some problems while writing; I only have a few points to discuss in this essay, often I can only pass over one argument, and it is difficult to expand a more extensive, more profound discussion. But at the same time, I had a lot to gain. While writing this paper, I began to think deeply about what the ultimate model of man and nature should be, marveling at the ubiquity of nature and the contradictory nature of humans. But ultimately, as social animals, humans need companionship, communication, and cooperation, but in post-industrial and highly concentrated cities, every skyscraper is like a prison, isolating everyone. People in developed countries are, therefore, more interested in having a pet, and at this point, nature reenters the jungle of steel.

In the second paper, I discuss what I consider to be China’s political system and some personal opinion output, using China’s recently passed 14th People’s Congress (PRC) as a guide. In this OpEd, I would have liked to discuss more personal, emotional, and conscious output specific to my age, but space and subject matter constraints resulted in what I consider to be the worst of the three papers. In this regard, my lack of understanding of Oped and my lack of familiarity with the expression of the topic and the collection of arguments due to the shortened length of the essay have revealed that I need to practice this point in my future writing and spend more time thinking about how to order my essay to make my argument and arguments clear and fluent under the word limit. But at the same time, it was also the most enjoyable paper to write because I didn’t have to worry about my views not being accepted by the mainstream; I was free to discuss the topics I wanted to discuss, and because of the nature of Oped, these topics were all happening now, giving me a sense of involvement with reality all the time, compared to the articles I used to write about history which always made me feel very vain and empty, leaving me with no real experience.

I spent a lot of time thinking about which direction to write on this paper’s topic. I was still deciding whether to write about Chinese spirituality or cultural export until I realized on the third day that I could talk about both, but I still gave up. The discussion and inspiration in Wandering Earth II on philosophy, life, death, and the relationship between humans and intelligent human-machine were excellent. Still, my professor and I were worried that writing about all these topics would make the paper superficial and not touch the main point. Finally, I focus on the reality of the meaning of art’s existence as the main battleground of ideology and the changes in the world landscape today. This part interests me the most, and I want to discuss the most. I am very proud that I was able to bring out many events that happened in recent years to expand the play’s plot. It makes my analysis serious and believable.

Compared with the last semester, when I was uncomfortable with the university, many of my papers seemed shy. Still, this semester I was more confident to tell my position and viewpoint in the way I like, which I think is very good. At the same time, I feel more pleased with the discussion with my friends, thinking when writing, and associating with current affairs, which made me gain a lot. The cumulative effect of all these has made me realize the meaning of establishing a university and the significance of studying. Last semester I was confused because I didn’t know what kind of work I could be involved in later. Still, now I would ideally say that I can do my best to bring about some changes for the sake of the people of my country and the human beings of this world so that the people can realize their rights to monitor the government and make the social system a virtuous cycle.
